Real Property Management of the Rockies

Is your Property Manager Proficient?

We just returned from one of the largest property management conferences in Orlando, FL.  It was a great time to get to know other people that are striving to be the best at their game.  You meet people from different backgrounds all working to do one thing: increase property owners’ revenue and profitability.

So, as an investment owner myself with properties in different states, one of the questions we must ask ourselves is, “is our property management company staying in touch with the latest industry trends?”  Just like an airline pilot, property managers must stay up on technology, new rules, and general efficiencies.  We also need to know how to handle a potential disaster as well.  Here are a few reasons that we at Real Property Management of the Rockies think conferences are important.

  1. We attend conferences to expand our knowledge base.  Day in and day out, we live in a small bubble of property management in Northern Colorado.  We can only study so much and we are limited in how much we learn from our experience.  However, when you put 10 property managers from around the country together, you hear from their experience.  You learn from their successes and failures so we can duplicate and not repeat.
  2. We attend conferences to keep our personal skills sharp.  These conferences give us the opportunity to speak in front of groups and mingle will people we have never met.  Just like our property owners, everyone comes from a different situation.  This is no different in the group of property management companies.  Some are more social than others, some are more critical than others and some are more challenging than others.
  3. We go to conferences to network with the top property management companies in the country.  We meet property managers who are managing thousands of properties.  Yes, some who are managing in excess of 5,000 residential properties.  Even though we will never be as big as these companies because of the population of Northern Colorado, it is still great to hear from them on how they efficiently work while not letting their level of service diminish.  That is the challenge for any property management company.  As you grow, you MUST not let your level of service diminish.
